Can Xalant, Center for Creation and Contemporary Thought in Mataró
Can Xalant is the first Center Visual Arts Creation and Contemporary Thought established in the territorial network, resulting from an agreement between the City Council of Mataró and Department of Culture and Media of the Generalitat of Catalunya. Can Xalant is a center whose management is shared between the cultural management company called Trànsit Projectes and ACM association from Mataró.

The project aims to implement the necessary programs for research and production in the field of visual arts. With this objective, the Center facilitates the artistic community -and any cultural agent- the resources needed to develop their projects. It makes a special effort to support emerging artists from town and to help thinking and working about the social context where they are.

Can Xalant activity is is based on 5 programs:

1 .- Laboratory programs: provides the use of spaces and facilities, as a service to artists and other cultural agents who have submitted projects to the periodic calls. Studios for rent and other work spaces; rental and / or disposal of equipment and audiovisual and multimedia resources. It also includes the organization of training courses and workshops.

2 .- Residency programs: The center has a house at the same center to lodge foreign artists. The residence is one of the most effective mechanisms for enhancing Can Xalant as a place of producing and training simultaneously and to establish exchange and cooperation projects with other schools and cultural organizations to promote networking and enrich programming.

3 .- Exchange programs: The relationship with other international centers similar to Can Xalant has enabled, from an open call and a subsequent selection, an exchange program of artistic residencies.

4 .- Curatorial Program: We may consider the curatorial program as the epitome of all activities organized by the Center or assigned to other specialized cultural agents with the intention of generating discussion and debate on specific issues directly related to production processes.

5 .- Dissemination Program: the diffusion and communication strategy focuses on the website (www.canxalant.org) and the publication of a yearbook.
