At the time of beggining the study, the fortress of La Mola, located in front of Mahon port, was open to the public only in his monumental part, which corresponds to a very small proportion of the entire peninsula and the buildings that compose it. The Consortium in charge of the fortress is considering the elaboration of a Master Plan for the rehabilitation of the heritage and the enhancement of the whole peninsula as a nature element as well as a heritage element.

In drafting the Master Plan, a socioeconomic study was developed which bases the territorial diagnosis. In parallel to the work of the team of architects and heritage rescue, a plan was developed for the uses of the buildings of the former prison, and the low and high barracks that combine educational activities, museum activities and cultural multipurpose area activities, defining spaces and minimum technical requirements for the proposed conceptual approach.
